Iglu.com Net Zero Policy and Strategy

Iglu.com is committed to achieving net zero emissions for our business operations by 2030 and for all customer travel by 2045. We will prioritise sustainable travel promotion, carbon offset initiatives, and operational efficiency to reduce our environmental impact. We will work with our customers, suppliers, and industry partners to drive positive change and create a more sustainable future for travel.

Understanding Our Emissions

While our direct emissions (from office operations) are relatively low, our indirect emissions (from customer travel) are significant. This makes our role in promoting sustainable travel practices crucial.

Goals and Targets

  • Business Operations: Aim for net zero emissions by 2030 for our own operations (e.g., offices, IT infrastructure, business travel etc).
  • Customer Travel: Set a target of net zero emissions for all customer travel by 2045. This will involve working with cruise lines, airlines and other partners along with our customers to promote sustainable practices and offset emissions.

Key Strategies

  1. Carbon Offset Initiatives:
    • Partner with reputable carbon offset providers: Ensure they have robust verification processes.
    • Offer customers the option to offset their travel emissions: Provide clear information about the benefits and costs.
    • Explore corporate carbon offsetting: Consider offsetting emissions from customer travel.
  2. Sustainable Travel Promotion:
    • Curate sustainable travel options: Highlight eco-friendly destinations, modes of transport, accommodations, and activities. See below for actions already taken.
    • Educate customers: Provide information on sustainable travel practices and the environmental impact of different modes of transportation.
    • Partner with sustainable tourism organisations: Collaborate to promote sustainable travel initiatives.
  3. Operational Efficiency:
    • Optimise office operations: Reduce energy consumption, waste, and emissions from business travel.
    • Transition to renewable energy: Explore options like green energy tariffs or on-site renewable generation.
  4. Technology and Innovation:
    • Leverage technology: Use digital tools to reduce paper consumption and improve efficiency.
    • Support sustainable innovations: Promote emerging technologies that can reduce the environmental impact of travel (e.g., electric vehicles, sustainable aviation fuels).

Resource Constraints and Customer Engagement

  • Financial Constraints: Explore affordable carbon offset options and consider partnering with organisations that offer discounts or incentives.
  • Customer Engagement: Educate customers about the importance of sustainable travel and provide clear options for offsetting their emissions. Encourage them to make conscious choices when booking travel and opportunities to pay a small premium to offset their own travel.

Examples of what we are doing currently

  • Cruise: actively working with our suppliers and industry bodies to promote greener cruising and informing customers about sustainablity in the cruise industry:
  • Ski: Highlighting resorts that have either green credentials or are making steps to use renewable energy ('Green resort' filter). We also flag properties with a little green leaf that are working on sustainability either be it from the food they ship up the mountain, to recycling and solar energy
  • Business operations: Octopus electric car scheme, flexible working significantly reduce travel to offices. Scoping an assessment of our current emissions footprint
  • Technology and Innovation: Continue adoption of cloud based computing. AWS infrastructure is up to 4.1 times more energy efficient than on-premises and can reduce workloads’ carbon footprint by up to 99%
