Passo Tonale is one of Italy’s highest and most snow-sure resorts- it offers skiing up to 3069m. It shares its ski area with the nearby resort of Ponte di Legno and together they offer up to 80km of finely groomed pistes.
The resort is good for all levels of skiers but probably best for beginners and intermediates. Beginners will enjoy the many blues and one of the three highly rated ski schools. A look at the piste map will show a fair amount of reds and Tonale is ideal for intermediate cruising. Experts have only a few blacks but also some off-piste action to get them going. This is best enjoyed with a local guide who will show you where the best powder is.
Beginner snowboarders will also find that Tonale is a great resort to learn in- there is also a dedicated snowboard school. Intermediates and experts will love the off-piste and find plenty of powder underneath the chairs.
There are some good inexpensive restaurants in the resort and four or five lively bars which can keep the après ski fanatic amused until the early hours. Off the slopes entertainment includes snow-mobiling, skating and sled riding. Tonale has plenty to offer in a convenient package and the sunny disposition of the slopes will guarantee that winter tan.
