Ski Resort Information, Ski Holidays to Obertauern
ObertauernA great snow record sets this Austrian resort apart.
If you think Obertaurern looks familiar when you arrive, it may be because the Beatles shot the idyllic ski scenes in the film ‘Help’ here. The resort is purpose built high up along the Tauern pass road and there is over 120km of marked pistes as well as the lift pass giving access to the other resorts with the Top Tauern Ski Check Pass.
For beginners there is lots to do with easy blues winding down from nearly all the 9 lifts going up the mountain from the resort. The high altitude (2330m) ensures great snow conditions and the well groomed slopes are seldom very crowded. There are also a choice of ski schools and a dedicated snowboard school to help everyone from beginner to expert to learn and improve. Intermediates will find the wide runs a dream to ski and there is a lot of ground for the mileage hungry to cover in Obertaurern. For experts there are several testing blacks (a few with knee spinning moguls) and powdery off piste.
The typically Austrian apres ski scene (lively with lots of beer) and the many, many bars will keep even the most hardened party-animal amused and there are several restaurants in which to sample the local culinary delights. For those wishing to spend some time off the slopes there is a new sports centre with saunas, swimming pools and a bowling alley.
