Ski Resort Information, Ski Holidays to Obergurgl
ObergurglHochgurgl, and slightly up the valley, Obergurgl are both isolated, snow-sure and idyllic.
The Hochgurgl and Obergurgl ski areas are connected by the recent TopExpress Gurgl gondola which combine the two to make a respectable 110km total ski area. The skiing here is mainly for beginners and intermediates. Experts will find that the few black will not offer up too many challenges. The off-piste can, however, be excellent when the snow is right. Beginners will find the whole area ideal for learning and improving- full of long, cruising blues. Intermediates will love the long reds and can test themselves by doing some exhilarating through-the-trees skiing.
Snowboarders will find the Festskog much to their linking, home to the snowboard park and a well-maintained quarter pipe. The boarding masses will find that where the area really comes into is when the powder is just right and there is some serious surfing to be had.
Most of the accommodation is right by the base of the slopes so once you have skied down and deposited your skis it is time to hit the après ski scene. There are around 15 bars between the two villages, both of with are idyllic winter wonderlands. Walking through them at night really makes you wish the UK was less polluted and more snowy. For such a small area the après ski is quite active but it dies down quite quickly and its not as riotous as some other Austrian resorts. This makes the resort great for families
