Méribel needs little introduction. It is in the centre of the huge Three Valleys, reputedly the largest ski area in the world. It has more British tour operators offering chalet accommodation than anywhere else and remains ever popular.
However, Meribel is no longer what one would call a traditional chalet village; it has remained true to the concept but has grown too large. It is made up of a number of separate areas including Mottaret, Les Allues, Village, Nantgerel and La Raffort.
The lift system is modern and always being up dated, particularly the links from the lower resort villages. The piste grooming is immaculate, with hundreds of snow cannons and a fleet of piste bashers which work all night to perfect the slopes. The size of the resort has meant that there is room for healthy competition so you will find plenty of ski schools to suit your particular needs and even a company to visit your own chalet to fit skis and boots. The skiing has more than enough to offer all standards and the choice of mountain restaurants is varied.
Night life is hectic with numerous night clubs and bars. If you are hoping to avoid speaking in a foreign tongue while on holiday you will find plenty of establishments where English is the only known language. Méribel is a huge success because it provides what everyone wants; excellent skiing, excellent après ski and excellent accommodation.
