Ski Resort Information, Ski Holidays to Macugnaga

Macugnaga

At the base of Mount Rosa the two pretty villages of Staffa and Percetto make up the resort of Macugnaga. Real alpine charm abounds here and both villages are very traditional Swiss looking mountain villages. There is a free bus service to take you between the two villages and to the slopes.

Macugnaga is an ideal resort for beginner skiers and snowboarders. There are some great nursery runs right down in the village and the friendly ski school is well respected. There are also some more nursery runs to progress to at the top and a fantastic view down the mountain. Intermediates and experts may quickly grow bored of the runs but there is plenty of powder to be had between and on the sides of the pisted slopes. With a guide this is also a great place to explore some off piste terrain- it is possible to ski all the way to Saas Fee (although getting back is a 2 ½ hour bus ride). Heli-Skiing can also be arranged.

For such a small resort there is also a fair bit of après ski liveliness to be had. Staffa is the main base for these activities, being the larger and livelier of the two villages, with a fair amount of restaurants and bars. There is also ice skating, snowshoeing, paragliding and mountaineering to keep the visitor occupied off the slopes.
