KanderstegKandersteg is in a wide valley flanked by imposing mountains. It is easily accessible particularly by train being on the main line through Switzerland and has connections to Germany, Belgium and Italy. The 2 ski areas of Oeschinen and Sunnbühl are perfect for beginners and intermediates and the resort boasts over 75km of prepared cross country tracks. Winter walking is also popular and the path from Sunnbühl to the Gemmipass is well known and takes in the resort of Leukerbad (3 hours). Other activities include an 800m toboggan run which is lit at night, winter horse riding treks and 30, 60 and 90m ski jumps. The resort and skiing is ideal for families who want a holiday in the snow with an excellent atmosphere and plenty of extra activities but where the skiing may not be the most important element.
