The Marmot Basin Ski Area offers some of the best powder in the Rockies.
Reports coming back from the Canadian Rockies about Jasper and the nearby Marmot Basin Ski Area are very favourable and reveals that it’s claims of being the most beautiful ski area in North America are not unfounded. The spectacular scenery of frozen lakes and glaciers which characterise Jasper National Park give rise to some amazing skiing experiences.
Beginners will love the fact that most of Jasper is actually available to them. Blues wind their way down the whole mountain and standing at the top is like standing on top of the world. There are also some low long t-bars right at the bottom of the mountain and the Marmot Basin ski school is excellent. Intermediate terrain is where Jasper really shines- there is much here to cruise and enjoy. The pistes are also as a rule very uncrowded- so fast intermediates will love it. Experts will find some great bump runs and through-the-trees deep powder skiing to keep them amused. Heli-skiing is also available for the really adventurous. Snowboarders will find lots of powder to frolic in and also a board park. Backcountry trips are available with a guide and there are 300km of some of the most beautiful cross country ski trails in Canada.
The town of Jasper itself is connected by a free 15 minute bus ride to the ski area and is quite a bustling little centre. There are plenty of bars and quality restaurants in addition to skating on the lake, sleigh rides, snowmobiling and ice fishing.
