Garmisch and the twin town of Partenkirchen form Germany's most famous ski area, situated at the base of Germany’s highest mountain, the Zugspitze. The Winter Olympics took place here in 1936 and it remains a World Cup venue.
The skiing is amid rugged and marvelously scenic Alpine terrain, the ski area is accessed via the scenic cable car or the direct cogwheel train.
