This Italian resort offers spectacular views of the Dolomites and is widely favoured by the rich of Rome and Milan, who are often more interested in a good lunch than skiing all day so the pistes are rarely over crowded. This is not a resort for those seeking the most challenging skiing although there are two steep and narrow runs - the Forcella Rosa and the Staunies from Cristallo. For the intermediate skier there are plenty of red runs with wonderful scenery. Cortina offers extensive nursery slopes for beginners on wide and gentle slopes and although it does not have the best snow record the resort has invested heavily in snow making machines so there is normally plenty of snow on the lower slopes. With the Dolomiti Superski circuit nearby no one should run out of new slopes. Cortina also has much to offer the non skier.
