Argentiere lies about 5 miles further up the Chamonix valley towards the village of Le Tour. The picturesque mountain feel of the village is abundant, and with a great variety of cosy bars and restaurants, Argentiere provides an interesting base to explore the surrounding ski areas of the Chamonix valley.
There are gentle nursery slopes of Les Chosalets for beginners, with a number of excellent local ski schools, and the immaculately groomed wide-open sunny nursery slopes in the old farming village of Le Tour. Intermediates can choose from Le Tour, the Grand Montets, Flégère, Brévent areas, which all have an abundance of blues and reds, and often breathtaking views of Mont Blanc. Expert skiers throng to what is undoubtedly the mecca of off piste skiing and boarding. The world famous couloirs and steep gullies of the Grand Montets, provide the best challenges, with the Vallee Blanche stretching from the Aiguille du Midi at 3790m down to Chamonix 24kms later. By far the best, and highly recommended way to explore the limitless off piste is with one of the many local experienced guides, who run group sessions or private days.
