Ski Resort Information, Ski Holidays to Alpbach

Alpbach

Great resort to cruise along open slopes before returning to a picture postcard village.

Right at the head of the Alpbachtal valley at around 1000m lies the idyllic village of Alpbach. It was voted ‘Austria’s most beautiful village’ in 1983 and developments since then have been in keeping with the style that won it the award. A 5 minute bus ride away is the magnificent Weiedersberger Horn, where all the skiing is to be found, apart from two nursery runs in the village.

For beginners this is a very good resort to learn in. There are excellent nursery slopes right by the village and the ski school has over 30 instructors. There are also some long blues in the main skiing area which are ideal for beginners to hone their skills on. Alpbach is a good place for intermediates to improve their skills. Although the area is limited to 45km of pistes, they are mostly red and are ideal for skiers who don’t mind skiing the same piste a couple of times a day. The more familiar you are with a piste the more confident you will be.

Experts will most likely find that the resort is too small and that the two blacks, while challenging, are not quite enough to keep them interested for long. The off-piste, however, is well known in Austria and the powder can be fantastic. Snowboarders will also find the powder to their liking, in addition to the two well maintained half pipes.

The après ski is somewhat subdued but there are laughs and late nights to be had in the many bars and two nightclubs.
